“Four Lies That Ruined the World” by Adrian Rogers

I just watched one of Adrian Rogers’s messages entitled “Four Lies That Ruined the World.” I want you to watch it too. I also made an outline as I always do when I listen to Adrian Rogers, and I will post that below.

Genesis 3:1-5

•  Satan’s whole system is built on a lie. (John 8:44)

•  God is not good. (Genesis 3:1)
• Satan tries to get us to believe that God is withholding good from us.
• God is not truthful. (Genesis 3:4) 
• The devil wants us to think skeptically about God. 
• “Anyone who cases skepticism regarding the authority, accuracy, acceptability, impeccability, infallibility, and authenticity of the Word of God is doing the work of the devil.” A. Rogers
• What we have substituted for the Word of God.
• Relativism- no fixed truth.
• Subjectivism- feelings and experiences.
• Rationalism- logic.
• Pragmatism- does it work?
• Postmodernism- truth is subjective and individualistic.
• The devil does not want us to have a fixed standard of truth.
• God is not righteous. (Genesis 3:4)
• The devil wants us to believe that there is no God of judgment.
• The devil knows that people fear death. That is why so many people believe in reincarnation.
• God is not gracious. (Genesis 3:4-5)
• Satan tells us that we can be our own god and have our own way.

• Satan tells us that we can never be fulfilled until we do our own thing.

The Offensive Church

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.

Matthew 5:14

I realize that the title of this post is no doubt very controversial. However, I feel that it is good every once and awhile to stir up some good, honest controversy. You see, Jesus was the most controversial Man in history. And the Bible says that that is exactly what we as Christians are supposed to be. The church of Jesus Christ is meant to offend.

John 3:19 tells us that people naturally love darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil. I am afraid that too many of our modern-day churches are nothing but hiding places for the lost. God has put me here to tell you today that, if your membership is placed at a church where outright, inright, downright sinners are made comfortable, you need to get out and get out right now!

It is my prayer that the church that I attend will be occupied by the lost every time the doors are open. However, I want them to be dragged in there by fellow Christians. You know that you have a problem when the lost walk into a church on their own freewill. You have an even greater problem when the lost walk out of that church feeling the same as when they walked in.

In Matthew 5:13-14 Christians are referred to as the “salt of the earth” and the “light of the world.” What does salt do? It preserves, but it also helps fight infection. Have you ever gotten salt in an open wound? If you have, I can guarantee you it did not feel too good. When a lost person walks into a church service, he ought to feel that uncomfortable.

Likewise, light exposes that which is hidden by darkness. Quite frankly, a church that is doing what it is supposed to do ought to strike up fear in the heart of the unbeliever. The lost ought to be so afraid that the hidden parts of them will be exposed that, when they attend our churches, they do it skeptically.

Finally, the church of Jesus Christ ought to be a place of conviction. Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” My ideal church is a church that has a pastor who will get in your face and make you feel as though you are the only one in the room and he is calling you out personally. If the Word of God is preached exactly as it was intended to be and there is any sin present in the life of the listener, that will be the result every time.

You say, “But God is love…” Yes, He is. However, don’t think for one second that Jesus preached a feel-good message during His ministry here on this earth. In fact, in John 8:44 Jesus told the scribes and Pharisees, “Ye are of your father the devil.” Now, how many times has your pastor said that? I am afraid that we are so scared of offending anyone that all we are doing is making this world a better place to go to Hell from.

The church is meant to offend. We ought to follow Jesus’ example of giving the Law to the proud and grace to the humble. So if there are any pastors reading this today, please make it your goal to be salt, to be light, and to preach messages that are convicting to the very soul and do it in love.

If you are reading this today and you do not know Jesus Christ as Lord of your life, it is my prayer that you will come to know Him before it is eternally too late for you. Turn completely from all sin and acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord. If you will do that, He will save you today and keep you saved forever.

False Conversion: Learning from the Queen of the West

Unfortunately, I am afraid that most people my age do not even know who Dale Evans was. However, she was one of my childhood heroes, and I still consider her to be one of my heroes today. I did not know much about Dale when I was growing up. However, I was reintroduced to Roy Rogers and Dale Evans about four months ago, and that is when I read Dale’s salvation story for the first time.

I like Dale’s salvation story because it is very similar to my own. Dale accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior when she was only ten years old. However, she would be the first to tell you that she did not make Him Lord of her life. And as she would say, “There is a big fat difference there.”

Shortly after Dale married Roy when she was thirty-five, she attended a church service with her son, Tom. That was when Tom told her that Roy’s children deserved to grow up in a Christian home and she needed to give her life to Christ. It was upon her son’s plea that Dale did indeed give her life completely over to Christ that day. And as she would have said, her life was “radically changed” and “the burden of sin was rolled away.”

Many of you reading this today may think that you will go to Heaven when you die just because you say that you believe in Jesus Christ. But as Adrian Rogers used to say, “If He is not your Lord, He is not your Savior.” Luke 13:5 says, “I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.”

Often times I will ask the readers of this blog to “acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord.” What do I mean by that? By acknowledging Jesus as Lord of your life, you are giving Him complete control over every aspect of your life. By acknowledging Jesus as Lord, you are saying, “What You say do, I will do. What You say say, I will say. Where You say go, I will go.”

If you have not yet acknowledged Jesus Christ as Lord of your life, I am asking you to please do so today. Turn completely from all sin and acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord. If you do that, He will save you today and keep you saved forever.

The Forgotten Verse of “Because He Lives”

Many years ago, Bill and Gloria Gaither wrote a song entitled “Because He Lives.” Since then, that song has been sung in churches and around the world for decades. However, it seems as though the very reason Bill and Gloria wrote this song has been forgotten.

At our church last night we sang “Because He Lives” minus the following verse. How sad!

How sweet to hold a newborn baby,
And feel the pride and joy he gives;
But greater still the calm assurance:
This child can face uncertain days because He Lives!

I love that verse. And there is no greater verse for time in which we are now living. There is hope because He lives.
