Below is a song that I very much enjoy listening to because it reminds me of so many people that I know. Some of those people, I have no doubt pray for me by name every day. I once met one very special lady that touched my life in a way that it had never been touched before. I have never met another person like her since that day, either. As we were talking, if something was said that she felt the Lord needed to hear about, she would pause and take that situation to God in prayer. At first, I thought what I was witnessing to be very strange. I had never met anyone like that before. However, I later realized that what that lady was doing was and is very biblical.

I also like to hear Gordon Mote sing this particular song because it reminds me of what God wants for me. Philippians 4:6 tells me that God wants me to take every situation, every circumstance, every problem, every triumph, every victory to Him in prayer. James 4:2 tells me that I have not because I ask not. Matthew 7:7 says, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” God doesn’t need us to pray so that He can know how to meet our needs; God wants us to pray as a way of inviting Him to change our lives for all eternity. God wants me to be fully dependent on Him, and prayer is how He does that.

There is a saying that goes something like this: “Work as if everything depends on you. Pray as if everything depends on God.” My friends, everything does depend on God. And when we fail to go to Him in prayer, we show Him that we have failed to realize that everything really does depend upon Him. I realize that we must put legs to our prayers. However, if we would each set aside time every day to tell Him all about it, I am convinced we would see a great revival in this nation.

If you do not know Jesus as Lord of your life today I pray that you would come to do so before it is eternally too late for you. No matter what anyone has told you in the past, in order to be saved, you need not say a thing. “The sinner’s prayer” will not get you to Heaven or put you in a right relationship with Him. If you truly want to be saved, you only need to do one thing—trust Jesus. And as a result of His saving grace, you will willingly repent of all sin as a way of saying thank you to the One who gave His life for you. No one who has come to Jesus in true repentance and faith has He ever turned away.

Excellent Post by a Former Teacher

The following is a link to a blog post written by one of my former teachers. She still teaches at the extremely conservative Christian high school that I graduated from. When I was there, we never observed MLK Day; however, I do not remember ever being told the reason why. This is the second year that they have observed MLK Day. Even though I know many students only see today as a day they don't have to get up and go to school (as I did for many years), I believe that she is right. No matter what kind of personal life Martin Luther King lived, I think there should be a day set aside for looking back on the way things used to be and thanking God for the changes that were brought about by Martin Luther King Jr. and many others like him.

Racism was very real back then and it is still a part of society today. As Christians, we need to realize that people are people in the all-seeing eyes of God, no matter what the color of their skin may be. I know that, as well as everything else, the issues of racism and civil rights can be taken too far, but I do not think there is anything wrong or unbiblical about celebrating a day that symbolizes victory and freedom for many people.

New Year's Day Rant

What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

Every Sunday Morning, the choir director at our church always makes the same opening statement: "Aren't you excited to be in the house of the Lord this morning!" If you want to get on my nerves, that is one way to do it. I hate that phrase because it is not a true statement. The house of the Lord is not a church building. My friend, the house of the Lord is you, if you have placed your faith and trust in Him.

First Corinthians 12:27 says, "Now ye are the body of Christ..." Over a year ago, we had a guest preacher at our church who introduced me to this phrase: "You cannot go to church; you can only be the church." He was exactly right. The church is every person who has ever come to repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. So the next time someone tries to welcome you to "the house of God," remember that you are the house of God.

How Did You Celebrate?

I had a wonderful day yesterday celebrating the birth of the King of kings and Lord of lords with my family. I hope you did, too. But the best part of the day was when I was able to slip away from it all and meditate on what Christmas really means. You see, Christmas is not about family, friends, or the exchanging of gifts; Christmas is the celebration of the beginning of the miracle that Christ came to perform in you. And I am so glad He came all those many years ago!

I have many wonderful Christmas memories of my own, but there is one Christmas memory that I heard shared a few years ago that just really stuck with me. It was the story of Mandisa’s favorite Christmas memory. She said that there was one Christmas when she was unable to go home to be with her family, so she spent the day in her apartment by herself. She said that she spent the day reading the Christmas story and just praising Jesus. How wonderful! I think we all need that time alone to reflect on just who He is to us.

If you have not already, find a quiet place a just spend some time praising Him and thanking Him for the miracle that is your life. And if you do not yet know Him as Lord, I pray that you will come to do so before the day comes to an end. I can promise you upon the authority of the Word of God that, if you will repent of your sin and trust Jesus alone to save you, He will save you today and keep you saved forever.

But I am so thankful to be able to say that it does not end there. Christmas is not just a celebration of the birth of Christ; Christmas is a celebration of the reason for His birth. Jesus came so that He could pay the price for your sins and for mine. He lived a perfect life, and then died on an old, rugged cross for the sins of the world.
