"The key to understanding the Bible is to look for Jesus in the Bible. Jesus is the hero of the Bible. If you read the Bible and don't find Jesus, re-read it! The Bible has one hero, His name is Jesus; one villain, that is Satan; one problem, that is sin; one solution, that is salvation. That is what the Bible is all about." -Dr. Adrian Rogers

Invite Them to Jesus First (8/4/2010)

I am so sick of hearing people say that we need to invite the lost to church. Now I know what you're thinking, "I thought this guy was all about witnessing and winning souls to Jesus. Now he's telling us to forget about it? What's up?" Well, yes, I am all for winning souls to Christ. However, if you think you can do that by inviting people to church, you're terribly mistaken.

You see, churches don't save people; Jesus saves people! Now I know that many people are saved in churches--I was saved as a result of a revival service--and that's awesome. However, the majority of the people you invite to church never come. And the majority of the ones that do come slowly slip away. Why is that?

Well, instead of just inviting people to church, we need to invite them to Jesus first. Make them aware of the sin in their lives, share the gospel with them, and then (if they hadn't already run away screaming) invite them to church. The reason most people that are invited to churches don't get saved is because they think that going to church is what saves them.

So, the next time you think about inviting someone to church, invite them to Jesus first. Chances are they might get saved, and you won't have to invite them to church because they'll want to go on their own as a result of them coming to know Jesus as Lord.
