"The key to understanding the Bible is to look for Jesus in the Bible. Jesus is the hero of the Bible. If you read the Bible and don't find Jesus, re-read it! The Bible has one hero, His name is Jesus; one villain, that is Satan; one problem, that is sin; one solution, that is salvation. That is what the Bible is all about." -Dr. Adrian Rogers

Why the "Sister Wives" Exist: Idolatry (11/5/2010)

Remember when I wrote a post urging you to pray that "The Sister Wives" would be taken off the air? Well, the other day, I had sort of a hypocritical moment. I had just finished watching the "Gaither Gospel Hour" and decided to turn the channel to TLC to see what was on. "The Sister Wives" happened to be on, so I reluctantly decided to watch a little bit of the show and see what they had to say.

In the five minutes or so that I watched of the show, I heard Kody Brown say that he has "adopted a religion that embraces his lifestyle." After hearing that statement, I had sort of a "light-bulb" moment. It was at that moment that I realized why this "family" does what they do. There is one simple word for the motive behind their polygamy--idolatry.

Idolatry is when someone makes up a god to suite their lifestyle. They deny God because He hates their sin. However, their are plenty of religions out their that even encourage their sin. God says that marriage is to be between one man and one woman for life. Kody Brown, however, doesn't agree with that, so he found another god that would "embrace" his sinful desires. The god of Mormonism, however, cannot really embrace anything because that god does not exist--he is only a figment of the imagination.

People like the Browns incorporate religion into their lives in order to make themselves feel less guilty about the sinful lifestyles that they live. Reality is that God is real. Heaven and Hell are real also. Just because you have religion in your life doesn't mean that you have God in your life. If you are religious but haven't come to Jesus and repented of your sins, then your god is not the God of the Bible. If you were to die today, you would split Hell wide open.

However, it is not God's will that you go to Hell. Hell was not created for you. If you go there, it will only be because you chose to go because you were too in love with your sin to live your life as God intended. But if you will place you trust in Jesus, who died for you, and repent of your sins, God will save you today a keep you saved...forever.
