"The key to understanding the Bible is to look for Jesus in the Bible. Jesus is the hero of the Bible. If you read the Bible and don't find Jesus, re-read it! The Bible has one hero, His name is Jesus; one villain, that is Satan; one problem, that is sin; one solution, that is salvation. That is what the Bible is all about." -Dr. Adrian Rogers

Not Intellectual, But Moral (4/26/2010)
I have seen this video several times before, but stumbled upon it tonight and felt led to share it with y'all. By sharing this video, I'm not trying to bash Oprah, but I am trying to make everyone aware of this type of belief that is so common nowadays. I especially like the part where Oprah says, "I'm not going to get into a religious debate with you." I believe she said that because she knew that the Christian lady was right and she was wrong. However, my favorite part of all is when the lady says, "But it's not religion." That's because Christianity is not a religion, but a relationship with the living God. You can tell by the way Oprah acts towards the lady that this is not an intellectual issue, it's a moral issue. Not having to trust in Jesus to save you means that you can do whatever you want. That's why people deny Him.
Please feel free to share.
Thanks for watching/reading!

ReplyDeleteSemantics... You are distancing yourself from the commonly accepted definition of the word religion - again! I thought we pretty much covered that a few weeks before this post.

ReplyDeleteJD,
I looked up the word religion, and found four different definitions:
1) People's beliefs and opinions concerning the existence, nature, and worship of a deity or deities, and divine involvement in the universe and human life
2) An institutionalized or personal system of beliefs and practices relating to the divine
3) A set of strongly-held beliefs, values, and attitudes that somebody lives by
4) An object, practice, cause, or activity that somebody is completely devoted to or obsessed by
So you are right, and I must correct my statement about Christianity. Christianity is not merely religion, but a relationship with the living God. You see, I do partake in those “religious” things listed above. However, I also have something those definitions don’t mention. That something is a relationship with Almighty God.
If you are going to expect me to hold to the worldly definition of religion, then how can I not expect you to also? Even atheism is a religion if defined by the definitions given above. All you have to do is omit the first two definitions, and you have atheism.
I choose to focus on the word relationship instead of religion because religion alone will take you straight to Hell. However, a personal relationship with Jesus Christ will take you straight to Heaven.
My point in posting the video of Oprah was to show that people do not reject God because they don’t understand Him and they don’t know, but because God’s standards are so high and they don’t want to give up their worldly lifestyle for Him.
Adrian Rogers once said that he did not believe that anyone who has ever walked this earth has died without having a chance to accept Jesus as Savior. I believe with all my heart that that is true also.
Creation is proof enough that God is real. And logic is proof that sin must be punished. Please, I beg you not to buy into the lie of this world. Jesus is the only way! I also believe with all my heart that you know that as well. Don’t reject the truth! Come to Jesus. Come to Jesus and live!
That is my ultimate purpose in posting this—to show you that Jesus is the only way.

ReplyDeleteThere are three words that describe those who believe in something that there is no evidence for. Delusional. Irrational. Illogical. Without evidence (Real evidence that is both logically consistent and scientifically accurate) belief in any supernatural or paranormal phenomenon is intellectual dishonesty of the worst kind. Having a "personal relationship" with god is like having a "personal relationship" with superman. Believing that something exists does not make it so.
There is none so blind as he who will not see.
